Playa de Las Vistas, Tenerife: accessible beach with Blue Flag

21 October 2026

Playa de Las Vistas is the big family beach of south Tenerife: about 850 metres of light, fine sand between Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas, in Arona, with calm water thanks to a line of breakwaters, a lifeguard team, a Blue Flag in 2026 and one of the most complete assisted-bathing services in Spain. The sand is imported and the setting is urban, with an avenue of shops and restaurants behind it. If you are travelling with small children or someone with reduced mobility, or simply want to swim without waves, it is the safest bet on the island; if you are looking for scenery or peace and quiet, it is not.

At a glance

  • Area and municipality: the Arona coast, between Los Cristianos harbour and Playa de las Américas.
  • Sand: light and fine, imported.
  • Approximate length: about 850 metres, and about 80 metres wide.
  • Waves and wind: calm water, protected by a row of breakwaters; the area is sheltered from the trade winds.
  • Lifeguards: there is a lifeguard team.
  • Facilities: toilets, showers, foot showers, sunbed and parasol hire, beach bars and restaurants, tourist information.
  • Blue Flag 2026: yes, on the official 2026 list.
  • Accessibility: access for people with reduced mobility and pushchairs, ramps, a hoist, assisted-bathing areas and specialist staff; in 2025 a study by Stannah ranked it among the seven most accessible beaches in Spain. Assisted-bathing hours change by season.
  • Parking: more than a hundred spaces nearby, on the street and in paid car parks; difficult in high season.
  • TITSA bus: Los Cristianos guagua (the local word for bus) station, with lines 110 and 111 to Santa Cruz and line 470 to El Médano, is a short walk away.
  • Best for: families with small children, people with reduced mobility, older visitors and anyone who wants to swim without waves.
  • Drawbacks: crowds in high season, an urban setting and scarce parking.

Accessibility and assisted bathing

Las Vistas is the island's benchmark for accessibility. As well as ramps and walkways down to the water, it has a hoist for getting into the sea, assisted-bathing areas and a specialist team that helps people with reduced mobility while they swim; for this set of services, the stairlift company Stannah included it in 2025 among the seven most accessible beaches in Spain. The bathing-assistance service runs to set hours and does not operate all day or all year with the same staffing: confirm with Arona town council before you go, especially if you need an amphibious chair, which does not appear in the official sources consulted.

How to get there

By car, leave the TF-1 at Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas and head for the coast; the beach is on Paseo de Las Vistas, between the two resorts. There are more than a hundred spaces nearby, on the street and in paid car parks, but in high season finding one by mid-morning is tricky. If you are staying in Los Cristianos or Las Américas, walk along the seafront promenade.

By bus, TITSA lines 110 and 111 link Santa Cruz with the south via the TF-1, and Los Cristianos bus station also has connections to the airport and to El Médano. From the station it is a short walk to the beach. The guide on how to get around Tenerife explains travel cards, fares and bus stations.

The sea and safety

The breakwaters turn the water into one big pool: small waves, a gradual slope and a sandy bottom, which makes it the easiest beach in the south for children's first swims. The lifeguard team watches over the beach; even so, when there is a swell there can be undertow near the breakwaters, and you should not swim over them. Pets are not allowed and soap is not permitted in the showers at the access points.

What is nearby

To the east, past the jetty, is Los Cristianos beach, smaller and next to the port for ferries to La Gomera, with crossings of about 50 to 60 minutes; many whale and dolphin watching boats also leave from the same port. To the west, the promenade continues to the Troya beaches in Las Américas and on towards Costa Adeje and Fañabé beach. To get away from the coast, Arona old town and Vilaflor are less than an hour away by bus; the guide to what to see in south Tenerife arranges them by day. If you are travelling with children, the guide to Tenerife with kids has more ideas nearby.

Best time of day and year

First thing in the morning the beach is emptier, there are free sunbeds and the sun is gentler for children; from midday it fills up and the promenade is buzzing. The afternoon is good for a last swim and a stroll to Los Cristianos in the low light.

Weather-wise, you can go in any month: south Tenerife has sun almost all year and the calm water at Las Vistas does not depend on the season. Winter is high season for northern European visitors and summer for Spanish and Canarian families, so there is no truly quiet month. The guide to the best time to visit Tenerife compares weather and prices.

Frequently asked questions

Does Las Vistas have a Blue Flag in 2026?

Yes. It is on the official 2026 list. The neighbouring Los Cristianos beach, however, did not renew it this year.

Is the beach wheelchair accessible?

Yes. It has ramps, walkways, a hoist, assisted-bathing areas and specialist staff. The service runs to set hours that may vary by season, so it is worth confirming with Arona town council.

Is the sand at Las Vistas natural?

No. It is imported light sand, protected by breakwaters, like most of the resort beaches in Arona and Adeje. The natural light-sand beaches in the south are El Médano and La Tejita.

Are there lifeguards?

Yes, the beach has a lifeguard team. Always respect the flag, especially on days with a swell.

Where can you park for Las Vistas?

On the street or in the paid car parks of Los Cristianos and Las Américas. In high season it is difficult by mid-morning; arrive early or take the bus.
